What Night-Owl is

Night-Owl is a read-only bot in the Discord communities operated by Ari Leavesley (aris-space.com). It keeps an archive of public channel messages so the operator can read a private nightly recap of community activity.

What data is collected

Messages posted in public channels of the communities, including text, attachments, and edit or deletion events within a recent window
Server membership snapshots (which accounts are present), used to note joins and departures
No direct messages are ever read or stored

How it is used

To produce a private, operator-only recap of what was discussed and what needs a reply
Summaries are produced by software running on the operator's own machine. Message content is never sent to a cloud AI service

Lawful basis

Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)): operating and supporting a community the operator runs. The balancing test is documented and available on request.

Retention

Archives are kept until you ask for deletion. There is no automatic expiry.

Your rights

Erasure: ask for your messages and membership records to be deleted (DM the operator in the server, or email). Deletion is permanent and confirmed.
Access: ask what is stored about you.
Objection: object to the processing at any time; the practical effect is erasure.

Residual note: if another member quoted your message, their copy may remain. Ask and it will be handled case by case.

Data is not sold, shared, or disclosed to third parties. It stays on the operator's own hardware.

Changes

Changes to this policy are posted in the community before they take effect.
